Aphrodite the Greek goddess of love and fertility, known to the Romans as Venus, was, according to one of the earliest Greek poets, born of the sea from the foam produced by the genitals of the castrated Uranus when they were cast upon the waters. The birth of Aphrodite, who rose from the waves, was one of the more popular themes of Classical artists.
This is another piece that had been created with biblical stories in mind. Other such subjects include Sir William Russell Flints The Judgment of Paris.
Recognized worldwide as a master of watercolour painting, Sir William Russell Flint's work enjoys the prominence of some of the finest and most experienced paintings of our time.
