This painting is often mistaken for a modern work; with a flash of amber from the buildings, it has a warmth, and yet superb detail that is extremey difficult to achieve with watercolours.
Venice was a particular favourite of Sir William; the light being so unique, as often mentioned by artists that have visited the region.
